About PurpleByte
How we are making the internet more accessible...one byte at a time
Our story
PurpleByte is on a mission to make the internet more accessible. We realise that it's an overwhelming process to change the entire internet's way of thinking. But every large mission begins with a simple small step, one byte at a time.
That's why the word "byte" is in the brand. But why the word "purple"? Well it is often used in accessibility contexts, often referring to the "purple pound" (the spending power of people with disabilities) or organisations like Purple Tuesday.
Our values
We believe that the internet should be accessible to everyone and bringing people together.
We value innovation like we value a proper cup of coffee - it should be fresh, invigorating, and give you that "Aha!" moment. We're not afraid to challenge the status quo, even if it means ruffling a few pixelated feathers.
After all, in our world, the only thing that should be exclusive is our dedication to inclusion!
Our mission
Our mission is to weave accessibility into the very fabric of the digital world. We believe that true innovation lies not just in creating new technologies, but in ensuring that these advancements enrich the lives of all people, regardless of their abilities and transform the internet from a space of barriers into a realm of unlimited possibilities for everyone.
Our work is rooted in the understanding that when we create online experiences for accessibility, we ultimately create better experiences for everyone. We see each challenge as an opportunity to bridge gaps, foster empathy, and push the boundaries of what's possible in digital inclusion.
Through education, innovation, and collaboration, we're committed to making this vision a reality, one byte at a time.
About Ahmed - Founder & Director
From living a world of inaccessibility and barriers, to creating a more accessible digital experience
Why I started PurpleByte?
As someone who has lived experienced of facing barriers online and offline because of my deafness, I know the challenges, frustration and loneliness that comes with being denied access to digital assets.
Throughout my career, I have worked on hundreds of web-based products. More often than not, accessibility is treated as a "nice-to-have", treated as a separate feature that can be added later on or "if there's budget for it".
Personally, I don't believe in that narrative. It should be treated as serious as any other aspects of a typical digital project; design, development, copywriting, social media, etc. And that's where PurpleByte comes in.
I have started it to help you maximise the implementation of accessibility on your projects so that you can reach even more people, whilst simultaneously creating a better experience for everyone, and not just those with disabilities.
You'll soon notice that creating a more accessibility-rich experience will actually benefit everyone, saving you money in the long term, reach more people and most importantly, allow people like myself to access your digital assets.
While this website will be focused on the general topic of web accessibility, it will touch upon deaf awareness, . But if you are interesting on something more dedicated and focused on deaf awareness, I have a separate website called Hear Me Out! [CC] where you can learn more about that there.
